Fulling drum model

Working model of a tannery leather milling drum

Model of an old style milling drum. The fulling drums in tanning jargon called (flywheel drums) are machines that serve to make the leather soft and depending on how long they run in the drum you can have a certain type of pattern in the grain of the leather. Modern drums use other safety measures and are equipped with systems to feed products into the drum as it rotates. The model of the milling drum made here only has a dust extractor.

    • Project

I didn't have much difficulty building this model of milling drum. Relatively easy also in terms of mechanisms, a series of pulleys and belts that transmit movement to the drum. Furthermore there is only one motor and one speed controller. I had to make this model because even if "simple" it is one of the machines that complete the entire tanning process.

    • Materials

The original model is entirely made of steel and therefore to make this model most of the materials used are metal. Only some parts such as the structures on the sides of the drum are made of plastic.
