Miniature combined machine for holding and drying tannery leather

The model of the tannery machinery reproduced has a name that is not usually used. The combined retaining and drying machine in tanning jargon is simply called “winding”. This pseudonym derives from the fact that when this machinery did not yet exist, wet skins were “hung out” in the wind to remove the water. The machine has a roller with blades that do not cut, but the particular inclination means that when it rotates in contact with the leather it widens the fibres, stretching the leather and removing the water contained in it. The roller that is underneath can be made of rubber or heated steel “Hot winding”. The leather resulting from this process is ready for drying.

Project
I looked for a historic brand that builds this machine and received a lot of attention. The biggest difficulties I have encountered are in building the roller with blades that have a precise angle. The mechanism to ensure that the underlying rubber roller closes and starts rotating, stops rotating and reopens is controlled by digital relays. This miniature compared to other models made is very small in scale to be mechanized and functional. This fact gave me problems with the placement of the motors that turn all the components. The model combined leather retention and drying machine for the tannery works with 6 and 3 volt batteries.
Materials
The rollers of this model are made of aluminium, the blades are made of tin. The roller underneath is a white silicone tube threaded into the aluminum tube.
